The major redesign that everyone is expecting from Apple will happen in 2017. This is not just about a radical redesign of the details. This new major change will be the extra cost that the design will bring.
According to the best and most reliable Apple analyst in the world, Ming-Chi Kuo of KGI Securities, Apple will finally introduce the wireless charging feature in all its upcoming iPhone designs. The major advantage will be the speedy wire charging. However, this comes at the expense of the price.
In fact, Kuo pointed out that three new iPhones will be launched in 2017. This includes two incremental upgrades of the iPhone 7S, and a 10th-anniversary edition of the original iPhone, which is an iPhone X or an OLED iPhone 8.
The expected downside would be price hikes as soon as wireless charging is introduced. Apple’s addition of a new layer of graphite justifies the increase in the price of the product. The graphite will serve as a protection from heat for the 3D touch sensor located at the back of the screen. The wireless charging feature is expected to produce a lot of heat and so the touch sensor needs to be preserved.
Apple’s ‘All-Glass’ design will definitely reduce the amount of dissipated heat when compared to an aluminum material. The result is that users will not feel the increase in heat. However, this heat-protecting layer of graphite together with the 3D Touch module will make the price of the iPhone to over $1,000 for the very first time.
This will then bring the Wow factor to Apple once again and committed Apple fans will naturally catch up. However, there will be price hikes in the US and in other countries that had the same price hikes when iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus were released a year ago.
This is nothing new for Apple. The MacBook Pro is proof that the company does not have second thoughts in upping prices in ratio to the product’s quality. In fact, the flip side of the new iPhone is that the wireless charging feature is optional.
Although there are some issues behind this, Apple is definitely experiencing pressure to step up ahead of Galaxy S8. Information sources say that Samsung is also planning on a new innovation in terms of smartphone redesign. Furthermore, Google will make a comeback with a new array of impressive Pixel and Pixel XL.
